A full weekend in Dorado. Beaches, food, sunset spots, and the things locals actually do on their day off.

Things to Do in Dorado, Puerto Rico (From a Local)

Dorado has a reputation — golf resorts, gated communities, quiet streets. All true. What most travel blogs miss is that it’s one of the best base camps on the island. You can wake up slow, be at a world-class beach in 10 minutes, and still make it to Old San Juan for dinner. Here’s what to actually do when you’re staying at La Palma House.

Morning

Coffee at Café con Amor. Strong, local, honest prices. Get the pan dulce.

Beach at Playa Sardinera. Walk, swim, read. Come back before the sun gets mean.

Afternoon

Lunch at El Vagón — a roadside lechonera the golf resorts pretend they don’t know about. Order the pernil and a Medalla.

Siesta or pool. This isn’t Miami. Slow down.

Late afternoon

Pick one:

  • Old San Juan tour — 30 minutes away. Walk the forts, eat mofongo at Deaverdura, and take your photos at Calle Fortaleza.
  • Toro Verde zip lining — if you want adrenaline. Book in advance.
  • Bioluminescent bay kayak — go on a moonless night in Fajardo. It’s genuinely magical and not hyped.

Evening

Sunset at Punta Salinas. Bring wine. Thank us later.

Dinner at Marina Marbella for fresh fish, or Picoteo if you want tapas, or Aqua in the Ritz if you’re doing Dorado Beach properly.

Late night

La Placita de Santurce. 25 minutes away. The city’s loudest, happiest night scene. Go on a Thursday.

On a rainy day

  • Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico (San Juan)
  • Book shop and espresso at Librería Norberto
  • Long lunch at Dorado Beach Resort
  • Order in, stay in, use the pool when the sun comes back

The honest truth

Dorado isn’t about seeing as much as possible. It’s about finding a pace you don’t want to leave. The best trips here are the ones where guests realize they planned too much and canceled half of it.

Book a few nights, leave gaps in the calendar, and let the island fill them in. When you’re ready, check our availability.
